Mid Day Meals Scheme MDM Scheme Complete Information. The Complete Information on Mid Day Meals MDM Scheme implemented in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Schools is discussed here. Mid Day Meal Scheme was launched by the Government of India which helps poor pupils from rural and urban areas and resolves issues of lack of nutrition, food security and access to education. With the help of this programme free lunch is provided on school working days for children in Primary and Upper Primary Classes in Government, Government Aided, Local Body STC, Madarsas and Maqtabs i.e supported under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). The Scheme was launched in January, 2003 for the children studying in Primary Schools (Classes I to V) and in October 2008, the same was extended to the children studying in Upper Primary Schools (Classes VI to VIII) and to the children studying in High Schools (Classes IX & X) with 100% state funds. This was further extended to the children studying in Special Schools under NCLP from the academic year of 2010-11.
From the year 2009 onwards the following changes have been made to improve the implementation of the scheme:-

Important Changes made from 2009 in MDM Scheme in Schools:From the year 2009 onwards the following changes have been made to improve the implementation of the scheme:-
- a) Food norms have been revised to ensure balanced and nutritious diet to children of upper primary group by increasing the quantity of pulses from 25 to 30 grams, vegetables from 65 to 75 grams and by decreasing the quantity of oil and fat from 10 grams to 7.5 grams.
- b) Cooking cost revision from time to time
- c) The honorarium for cooks and helpers @ Rs.1000 per month per cook- cum-helper was introduced from 1.12.2009. Honorarium at the above prescribed rate is being paid to cook-cum-helper.
- One cook- cum-helper for schools up to 25 students.
- Two cooks-cum-helpers for schools with 26 to 100 students.
- One additional cook-cum-helper for every addition of upto 100 students.
